Het koperorkest J is uitgebreid met een bombardon en zeker een trompet of 2. Hun repertoire is er op verbeterd en er zijn in het begin zelfs geen valse noten te horen. Na de stop bij de eerste fontein van de 5 heeft de Pastis meteen al wat remmen losgemaakt en dansend in de meest gekke witte kleren met de nodige oogbescherming vliegt de bloem gemengd met de confetti rijkelijk alle kanten uit. De groep feestvierders wordt ieder jaar toch talrijker. Hier en daar zie ik deze keer mensen van het dorp “hiernaast”. Hardnekkig blijft ieder het “la fête de la farine” noemen al werd de naam officieel tot “fête de confetti” omgedoopt. Reeds begin deze week waren de schappen met bloem in de supermarkt dagelijks uitverkocht. Ontstaan uit een heidense gewoonte om de goden te danken voor de goede oogst, hielt het feest zelfs stand in de oorlogsjaren. Vandaar die papiersnippers want bloem konden ze toen niet rondgooien. Halverwege begint de echte pret helemaal. We worden vergast op met water gevulde ballonnen. Daar kan geen bekertje water tegenop. Uiteindelijk zitten we helemaal onder een papje en eindigt de burgemeester onder luid applaus in de laatste fontein.
Amper een uurtje later zitten de deelnemers gewassen en proper aan de lange tafels op het plein. Deze week past mijn broek perfect terwijl ze vorige week lichtjes spande. “Tonton a faim” speelt ook hier weer muziek. Geen mens die zich stoort aan de uitschuivende noten. Gekke bende !
